Concord, NH- Dr. William Kassler, the State Medical Director and the head of the Governor's Crematorium Task Group, today released the preliminary report on the inspection of the state's crematories. Key findings of the inspections were that the state's crematories do follow specific rules and procedures as well as protocols consistent with the funeral industry and OSHA recommendations and that was no evidence of health concerns. Further, the inspectors found that crematorium operators have rigorous protocols in place for identifying and labeling remains.

"This report is a vote of confidence for the crematories of New Hampshire," said Kassler. "The facilities we inspected were well run, responsible and safe. The industry has done a good job in keeping high standards in these crematories."

The report stated, "NH Crematorium operators are vigilant, ethical, caring professionals." The inspection teams found that the facility owners would welcome standardized rules, licensing of crematories and annual re-inspection. The inspection team will now work on recommendations for the future, including changes in administrative rules and regulations.

"We are working on recommendations to strengthen this industry and give confidence to the families who have lost a loved one," added Kassler. "As part of our critical review the Task Group will look at information from the Inspection Team as well as from other sources. We will submit a report to the Governor with our recommendations soon."
